Washington, D.C. – For close to 50 years, GALA has celebrated the holidays with its traditional event for the community, Fiesta de los Tres Reyes Magos/The Three Kings Day Celebration. GALA will again tell the timeless story of the Magi with song, dance, and storytelling on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 2 pm. This bilingual presentation for the entire family preserves one of the most popular celebrations of Latino cultures. Fiesta de los Reyes Magos takes place at GALA Theatre, 3333 14th Street, NW. A procession/posada with the Three Kings and live animals –including donkeys, goats, and sheep– will begin at 1:30 pm on the sidewalk in front of the theater, followed by the bilingual presentation at 2 pm. Admission is free but tickets are required. Tickets for the 2 pm presentation will be distributed at GALA’s Box Office between 12:45 pm and 1:30 pm on January 8 on a first-come, first-served basis. To protect the health of all attendees, especially children, this year GALA will implement the following safety measures: The event is capped at 220 people. Only one adult is allowed for every three children. Every family will be given up to four tickets for the event: three tickets for children and one ticket for adult. The 2023 Fiesta de los Reyes Magos features Bienvenido Martínez as Balthasar, Quique Avilés as Gaspar, and Héctor Díaz as Melchior. The featured performers include the local band Sol y Rumba; Los Quetzalitos, a Mexican dance company directed by Laura Ortiz; and the popular Bolivian dance group Alma Bolivia, directed by Titian Tolentino. The event also will include the traditional Nativity and the giving of gifts to all children by the Magi. Alejandro Negrón, who is the host of DC Agenda Radio, is the Master of Ceremonies. This program is made possible with generous support from Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs, the Federal Credit Union of the Organization of American States, the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, District Bridges, the Mt. Pleasant Business Association, and Casa de la Cultura El Salvador. GENERAL INFORMATION GALA has 4 wheelchair accessible spaces and an elevator to transport people from the entrance to the lobby, and to the house. Parking is available at a $4 flat rate in the Giant garage on Park Road, NW (must validate parking ticket at theatre lobby for discount). Additional parking is available at the Target garage also on Park Road NW, between 14th and 16th Street NW. The wearing of masks is required IF you are fully vaccinated, pursuant to CDC guidelines, but have NOT received an updated bivalent COVID-19 booster vaccine, or if you are not vaccinated. All patrons ages 5 and up MUST provide either proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative COVID test (taken within 72 hours prior to show time) to be admitted to the theatre. Children 0-4 years old accompanied by fully vaccinated parents do not need to show proof of a negative COVID test.
