Engagement with 120 Exhibitors, more than 1,500 attendees and various educational workshops and panels make it possible to connect minority-owned businesses with potential clients and organizations that support their growth. In support of the Expo, Mayor Muriel Bowser wrote “This annual conference has become GWHCC’s premier event to directly connect the business community with potential clients, organizations, business leaders, elected officials, and federal and local government agencies to help build strong business networks.” According to a study by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the nearly 4.4 million Latino-owned businesses in the United States contribute more than $700 billion to the US economy. In addition, the average annual revenue of Latino-owned business jumped an impressive 26.5% during the past 12 months, to $327,189, according to Biz2Credit data. To that end, and on a regional level, the Chamber continues to support the tremendous growth of Hispanic and non-Hispanic owned businesses by finding opportunities for collaboration and inclusion. “Hispanic small businesses are a powerful force that is fueling the growth of small businesses everywhere. Despite the challenges that business owners face, such as accessing capital, our entrepreneurial spirit equips us with the drive that is needed to succeed. The GWHCC 10th Annual Business Expo provides the necessary tools and guidance to benefit businesses of all sizes,” says Nicole Quiroga, President and CEO of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. This year one of the Expo workshops will be presented by Rafael Marrero, author of the “La Salsa Secreta del Tio Sam”, the first book published in Spanish on government contracting. His workshop, The Hispanic Secret Salsa: Key Ingredients and Recipes for Success in Federal Contracting, will showcase how to capture a piece of the $500 Billion Dollar Federal Market as a Hispanic-Owned Small Business. Other workshops include Digital Marketing, Panel on International Tourism, Doing Business in the Region, and so much more. Also, the Small Business Village is back! Presented by TD Bank, the Small Business Village offers new and upcoming small businesses the opportunity to showcase their services and connect with new clients. Finally, the much anticipated GWHCC Executive Luncheon will be hosted by American University's Center for Latin American & Latino Studies and Kogod School of Business. A select group of panelists will present research on Latino small businesses, discuss their community contributions, and identify future regional plans to better support Latino business growth and our community at large.
