The Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is launching the first ever GWHCC Hispanic Business Hall of Fame at the 43rd Annual Gala on June 14th at the MGM National Harbor. The initiative will recognize business leaders whose legendary achievements continue to promote and advance the economic climate of our communities. GWHCC President and CEO Nicole Quiroga said she created the Hall of Fame to leave behind a legacy and create something that will continue to acknowledge the advancement of the Hispanic business community on an annual basis. The first inductees are: Maria Gomez, executive director of D.C.-based community health provider Mary's Center; Juan Pablo, co-founder and president of Babyscripts, a D.C. software company; and Pepco Holdings Inc., the D.C.-based power supplier. An advisory group compromising five Greater Washington business veterans selected the recipients. Gomez will be the recipient of the GWHCC Legacy Award, given to a long-standing business leader who has demonstrated a history of resiliency, sustainability and corporate citizenship. Maria founded Mary's Center in 1988, and under her leadership the organization has grown from an initial budget of $250,000 serving 200 participants to an annual budget of $63 million serving over 50,000 people across eight locations in the District and Maryland. The GWHCC Young Hispanic Entrepreneur Award will be given to Juan Pablo Segura. Segura founded Babyscripts in 2014 , which seeks to transform the delivery of pregnancy care through internet-enabled medical devices. He is also the architect of the first "Prenatal Care Moonshot" focused on eliminating preterm birth by 2027 through mobile/digital technology. And lastly, Chamber member and trustee-level sponsor Pepco Holdings will be the recipient of the GWHCC Corporate Community Anchor for their contributions and strong commitment to corporate responsibility practices that have empowered the Hispanic community in the region. During the gala, the chamber will also announce its new board members, including new chairman Juan Jara, senior vice president and market manager at City National Bank. The event will raise money for the organization, which reported $1.29 million in revenue in 2017. For more information on this event click here.
